The Western Alpine Team had their fourth and final divisional race at Crested Butte Mountain Resort on February 10 and 11, before heading to Regionals. Teams around Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming were in attendance.
Sophomore Kyra Long captured the women’s overall season title after skiing into 2nd place on Saturday (2:11.94) and skiing a 3rd place run on Sunday (2:07.93). Senior Carmen Smith skied into 15th on Saturday (2:25.44) and 20th on Sunday (2:20.53). Senior Carley Clegg landed herself a 20th spot Saturday (2:27.54) and 26th on Sunday (2:28.32). Sophomore Maeve Poulson found herself in 22nd on Saturday (2:30.83) and a 24th Sunday (2:22.32).
On the men’s side junior, Tyler Long skied into 7th on Saturday (2:08.18) with freshmen Trevor Buongiorno right behind him landing the 8th place Saturday (2:09.41) and a 10th on Sunday (2:07.67). Sophomore Beck Heidmous skied his best weekend of the season with 21st Saturday (2:24.90) and 17th on Sunday (2:16.85).
Both Western’s men’s and the women’s team have qualified to compete at Regional Championships. The teams will head to Jackson Hole, Wyoming on February 21 to compete in three days of racing in slalom, giant slalom, and dual slalom. Twenty-five ski team from the West will come together to compete for three-team spots and one individual spot that will go on to compete at Nationals at the beginning of March in Lake Placid, New York.
