Western’s mountain bike team traveled to Granby this past week to compete in the Oredigger MTB Challenge, hosted by the Colorado School of Mines. The event held XC, downhill, endure, and short track riders in close competition on courses ranging from manageable to onerous.

On the first day of competition, the riders were up early training. Cross country riders had the first race, with enduro following close behind. The racecourse was exciting, with both races having a downhill portion on Granby’s Silky Johnson trail.

The following morning, the short track races began, taking place on the lower part of the mountain. The course consisted of a short climb, followed by a banked downhill section with a single jump. The racers cycled the course for 15 to 20 minutes vying for the top spot. Following the short track race, the downhill race began on Granby’s Stranger trail. The trail is a very technical route down the mountain, with a several rock gardens and a few drops, followed up by a series of optional jumps at the bottom. Western’s riders trained and executed swift descents on the exciting course. Check out the photo slider and video below for the action.

Results will be posted as they become available, so check back in a while.
