This Saturday Crested Butte Mountain Resort hosted the third installment of the Town Randonee Race Series. This was the only pairs event in the series and drew around 30 competitors including Western’s Endurance Ski Team. Randonee racing, otherwise known as Skimo or Ski Mountaineering, has been a popular sport in the Crested Butte area for quite some time. Crested Butte Mountain Resort even has a dedicated daytime uphill route.
Western State Mountain Sports student athletes Nick Schley and Matt Clark competed as a team in this installment of the Town Randonee Series. The pair dominated the start, quickly moving towards the front of the pack.. The race continued on the daytime uphill route towards the top of the Painter Boy chairlift throughout he gladed daytime uphill route. The course continued toward the bottom of the Teocali lift and eventually to the finish at the Paradise Warming House. Schley and Clark placed third overall, finishing in just under an hour.
