Crested Butte, CO: The Subaru Freeride Series at CBMR has gained some serious momentum last weekend, March 27-30th , featuring killer performances from the WSCU Mountain Sports Team. The 2-star comp at Hawks Nest was a good prelude to the rest of the weekend. During inspection on Wednesday the snow was soft, however a hard freeze overnight made for variable conditions during the day. Despite the snowpack, Dave Sugnet and Amy Davis were able to throw down solid lines and impressive performances. Thursday concluded with Dave Sugnet scoring second and Amy Davis scoring fifth, qualifying both of them for Friday’s, 4-star competition.

Day 1 of the 4-star event took place on the infamous Headwall venue, where event organizers and a crowd of stoked spectators gathered to add some hype to the competition with tunes and good vibes. Friday concluded with Francesca Pavillard-Cain in first place overall for the women, Matt Martell in 19th and coach, Alex Else, in 20th – all advancing to Day 2. Both energy and stoke where high:

Overall, it was a good day on Headwall and we’ll have another good day on staircase tomorrow,” said Pavillard-Cain. “In addition, We have had a pretty solid season. The snow’s been pretty thin at all of the other venues but that hasn’t stopped anyone from throwing down.”

Day 2 of the 4-star event took place in the Staircase & Slot Rocks area in Spellbound bowl on Saturday. After the final runs, Francesca held position from day1 and took the overall win with pride! WSCU’s Matt Martel and Alex Else took a few steps back in the men’s field due to some unfortunate mishaps, yet in high spirits.
