After four inches of snow from the previous night, riders participating in the Cyclocross race hosted by WSCU knew that it was about to be an awesome day of riding. This race was the Collegiate Regional Championship and featured riders from surrounding schools, as well as an open category for any rider that wanted to participate. Racers slipped and slid their way around trees, up and down stairs, and all over Western’s Campus, with the finish right on the University Centers doorstep. Students as well as community members, came out to watch some crazy bicycle racing! Here’s a bit about what some of the WSCU Bike Team members had to say about the race.
“Cyclocross is fun! When else do you ride through snow and up stairs?” -Zoe Smith
“I loved it! The was a blast and conditions were perfect: tough course, cold temps, and plenty of wet and snowy ground!” -Nick Schley
“The cross races on Sunday were super fun. All the people I talked to, both from the collegiate and open races, liked the course and it seemed like everyone had a great time. The weather was great and the snow from the night before really made it feel like a true cross race. It was awesome to see the support we got from the other collegiate racers and the community members.” – Graham Ruhmann
