The Western State Colorado University Trail Running Team took to the iconic trails in Moab, UT at the Moab Trail Marathon this past weekend. Representing the end to the fall race season for many, the event proved to be a stellar one for these Mountain Sports athletes. Over 30 athletes competed in either the half-marathon or the full-marathon.

The Moab Trail Marathon is also a United States Track and Field (USATF) National Championship event. Sophomore Gordon Gianniny landed in 13th overall (9th in the USATF Championship) with a time of 3:28:44 to lead all Western athletes. Junior Timberlin Henderson posted a stellar 25th place result in a time of 3:41:36. The women’s event was just as competitive, with Western being led by Katie Lyons in 36th place, with a time of 4:54:23, followed by Amanda Campbell in 46th place in 5:03:14.

Also of note in the marathon were Ella Chavez and Lindsey Herman, who took the top two under-20 age group spots. Well done team!
The half-marathon racers were led by junior Daniel Bloom in 2nd place overall, with a time of 1:36:01, and junior Marcel Such in 5th place with a time of 1:42:54. Freshman Skylar Drakos popped an impressive result, by landing in 7th place with a time of 1:46:17.

The team is now in active recovery mode, with an eye toward a strong winter of training in anticipation of many races in the spring and beyond. #GoWestern
