Western’s Alpine Ski Team competed in the USCSA Rocky Mountain Conference’s Maverick Invitational this past weekend. The race was originally scheduled to be a slalom/giant slalom weekend at Powderhorn, but due to a lack of snow was relocated to Echo Mountain for two slalom races.
Having raced at Echo only a few weeks earlier, Western’s ladies knew what to expect: two long slalom courses each day. Because of the bug that seems to be going around campus lately, the girls were exhausted. Pushed to their limits, they still tried to ski well and win. Unfortunately, only Carmen Smith finished both runs Saturday, placing 29th combined. Carley Clegg was Western’s only finish on Sunday, in 22nd place.
The Alpine Ski Team looks forward to USCSA Regionals at Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, Idaho this upcoming week.
