This past weekend WSCU headed to Copper Mountain to compete in the USASA Rocky Mt. Series skier cross competition leading into this week’s event: the USSA Nor-am Skier Cross Hole Shot Tour, hosted by Copper Mountain starting January 23rd. The team had an great opportunity to race the course prior to the Hole Shot Tour over the weekend facing more skiers than typical in the typically snowboard dominated USASA competitions. WSCU faced racers from Japan, Russia, and the U.S. National Ski Team in competition on Saturday and Sunday.

Despite the pressure of the field, WSCU athletes had an impressive showing at the event. Morgan Haymans, Sophmore student and veteran of the Grand Prix and USCSA Nationals skier cross events, put in some fantastic runs placing 5th on Saturday and 6th on Sunday. Xavier Martin, exchange student from Spain,  also competed in the weekend’s races.  Xavier shaved seconds off his trial time in his first ever skier cross competition and looks to continue the trend during the 2013 competition season.

WSCU women skiers Amy Davis and Francesca Pavillard-Cain made a strong showing at the Rocky Mt. Series as well. Francesca took home the 2nd place spot as the weekend of racing came to close on Sunday afternoon.
