Western’s one of a kind Freeride Ski Team provides top-shelf coaching and support for skiers whose passion is steep, natural terrain.
From established Big Mountain competitors, to athletes looking to do their first Big Mountain comp, our experienced coaches will get you to that next level. We train at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, the premier mountain for steep natural terrain in the state; no other Colorado resort even comes close. Training happens both during the week and on weekends.
Big Mountain skiing at Western is all about progression and it doesn’t matter where you start. All that is required is a passion for skiing and a commitment to training and hard work. Less experienced skiers will get comfortable in Big Mountain terrain so that they’re ready for their first comp skiing for Western. More experienced athletes will work toward skiing in Freeride World Qualifier events. These are 2 and 4 star competitions held in California, Colorado, Utah, Montana and New Mexico. Even if you’re not sure about competing, by being a part of the program, taking advantage of our coaching and skiing with the team, your skills, experience and technique will erupt as you ply the steep and deep terrain of Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
Western’s Mountain Sports Program welcomes all abilities and recognizes that hard work and dedication, both in the classroom and out on the mountain, will allow you to grow and to achieve as a person, as a student and as an athlete. As part of Western Mountain Sports, you will meet lifelong friends and have experiences that you will never forget.
