The Western Mountain Sports Cycling Team competes primarily in gravity and endurance mountain biking, but cyclocross and road racing are also in the mix.
The Mountain Biking team competes in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference (RMCCC). While Western competes in Division 2, riders get to test themselves head to head each weekend against the best Division 1 schools in the nation, including Ft. Lewis College and the University of Colorado.
Collegiate racing divides competitors into categories A, B or C based on experience so seasoned veterans and new racers alike get to race against the appropriate level of competition and progress at their own pace. Some student athletes are national or world caliber and have ambitions of racing at the highest level – UCI World Cup/World Championships, the Olympic Games, etc. – while others are just in it for the fun, the challenge, and the camaraderie of training and racing with a collegiate mountain biking team.
